On Saturday, February 7, 2026 Harmony Magnet Academy competed in the Tulare County Academic Decathlon Competition and secured their fourth consecutive county championship. Students competed at three levels based on grade point average: Varsity, Scholastic and Honors, which is the highest. This year’s theme was The Roaring 20’s, and students competed in 10 different events: seven subject areas (art, economics, literature, math, music, science and social science) plus a timed essay, interview, and prepared and impromptu speeches. The win this year was their strongest performance to date. In addition to the county title, the school team won the live Super Quiz competition and also had individuals secure the overall highest cumulative score countywide in each of the three GPA groups. HMA senior Rogelio Nunez was the overall top scoring decathlete for Varsity; HMA junior and team co-captain Claire Holly earned the highest cumulative score for the Scholastic division; and junior and team co-captain Kris Kashyap secured the top score both for Honors and for the entire competition. The official school team competed with nine students with an additional six students competing as individuals and rounding out the larger school team. Of special note this year, junior Kris Kashyap medaled in all 10 events and secured seven first place gold medals. He was the plaque winner and overall high scorer countywide in 6 events: art, essay, music, literature, science, and social science. Gold medals were also earned by the following HMA students: junior Alejandra Rivas - Interview; junior Claire Holly - Literature; junior Olivia Braghetta-Peterson - Social Science and Essay; senior Daniel Jacuinde - Essay, senior Rogelio Nunez - Music and Social Science, and junior Aaron Armenta - Speech.
